According to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, “All the Freedom Flotilla and Thousand Madleen boats were pirated in the early hours of October 8, 2025.”
Among the crew on the flotilla is Tom Hayes, a documentary filmmaker and Associate Professor of Instruction in the School of Film at Ohio University, currently serving as a media volunteer.
Hayes was sailing on a boat called the Conscience, carrying dozens of international journalists and medical professionals from 25 countries. The Conscience was on a mission to break Israel‘s illegal siege of Gaza, challenge Israel’s media blackout of Gaza, and affirm the Palestinian people’s right to live in freedom and dignity.
Ohio University Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine join the Freedom Flotilla Coalition in demanding the following:
· An end to Israel’s illegal and deadly blockade of Gaza;
· An end to Israel’s genocide of Gaza;
· The immediate release of all abducted volunteers;
· The immediate delivery of humanitarian aid directly to Palestinians, independent of Israeli control;
· Full accountability for the military assaults on our flotilla boats.

Profesor ohioano secuestrado por fuerzas castrenses israelíes
Tom Hayes es profesor adjunto en la Escuela de Cinematografía de la Universidad Ohio. Fuerzas castrenses israelíes lo secuestraron en un madruguete el 8 de octubre de este año por su participación en la Flotilla Global Sumud que pretende entregar ayuda humanitario, rompiendo el bloqueo impuesto por el estado de Israel.
“La Flotilla por la Libertad entera, y también miles de naves Madleen, fueron secuestradas en la madrugada del 8 de octubre el 2025” denunció la Alianza de la Flotilla por la Libertad.
Entre la tripulación voluntaria se encuentra Tom Hayes, cineasta de documentales y Profesor Adjunto de Asignatura en la Escuela de Cinematografía de la Universidad de Ohio (OU). La nave Consciencia transportaba docenas de periodistas y médicos proveniente de 25 países. Su misión proponía quebrantar el asedio ilegal de Gaza, resistir el bloqueo mediático de la Franja y afirmar de derecho del pueblo palestino a vivir en libertad y con dignidad.
La agrupación Plantel Docente y Trabajadores Administrativos para Justicia en Palestina (OUFSJP) respaldan la Alianza para la Flotilla Global Sumud (FFC) con las siguientes reivindicaciones:
Fin al bloqueo ilegal y mortal de Israel contra Gaza
Fin al genocidio israelí contra Gaza
Liberación inmediata de los voluntarios raptados
Entrega inmediata de ayuda humanitaria a los palestinos sin intermediación israelí
Transparencia total de las irrupciones militares contra las naves de nuestra flotilla
